Feds Open Center in Southern Ky. to Help Tornado Victims

The Federal Emergency Management Agency opened a center in southern Kentucky about a mile from where a winter storms tore apart homes and killed four people earlier this month.

FEMA workers are at a Mobile Disaster Recovery Center at the East Allen, Ky., Fire Department to help guide victims through the process of applying for grant money to help pay for recovery from the storm.

Allen County was one of nine Kentucky counties declared a federal disaster area on Feb. 22, allowing FEMA to open a center there. Another center has opened in Muhlenberg County, where three people died.

The storm on Feb. 6 spawned violent tornadoes that killed dozens of people across the South.

Seven people were killed in Kentucky, including a 2-year-old boy.
