Alabama Physician Loses Battle over License at Appeals Court
An Alabama state appeals court has ruled against a Montgomery cancer doctor trying to keep his medical license after being accused of endangering the health of his patients.
The Alabama Court of Civil Appeals issued a 4-1 decision March 21, that went against Dr. David Morrison.
The Medical Licensure Commission of Alabama had revoked Morrison's license and fined him $266,000 after he was accused of performing unnecessary and painful treatments on patients, including one who nearly died.
Montgomery Circuit Judge Charles Price had stayed the decision by the licensing board. But the appeals court set aside that ruling last week.
Morrison's next step is the Alabama Supreme Court.
"I am very disappointed in today's decision, but I will continue to fight for my patients and my right to practice medicine. I am confident that when this legal process is complete, I will win,'' Morrison said in a statement.
