Tennessee: Computer Seller Misled Buyers

Tennessee attorney general's office has filed a lawsuit against BlueHippo, claiming the computer sales company unlawfully took $2.6 million from at least 4,500 Tennesseans.

The lawsuit says the company Baltimore-based advertised on national TV to target households with poor credit making less than $25,000 annually and sell them computers through layaway or finance plans. It says BlueHippo mislead consumers about when they would receive their computers by mail and refused to refund the upfront payments customers made.

The lawsuit filed Oct. 23 says the upfront payment costs consumers two to three times more than what licensed retailers charge for the same product. It also says BlueHippo does not have a state lender license.
